Summary
As part of the Dean of Students Office, the Community Service Program Manager will be responsible for coordinating UR Potential, advising the Community Service Network; facilitating Alternative Spring Break programs; and responding to ongoing student and community requests for volunteer placements. The Manager will advise students and groups as needed to facilitate these programs, seeking to empower students to take leadership roles whenever possible. The Program Manager will report to the Director of the RCCL, and will be expected to work closely with other members of the RCCL, as well as with other staff in the office of the Dean of Students. In addition, the Program Manager will be expected to assist with office-wide initiatives when necessary, such as Wilson Day and the Rochester Urban Fellowship.
Responsibilities
Coordinate UR Potential program:
Work with RCCL director to coordinate partnership with Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection. Arrange dates for weekly tutoring sessions. Recruit undergraduate students as tutors. Coordinate program-specific tutor orientation and training. Coordinate Wegmans food donations for weekly meetings. Coordinate content for college immersion programming each week. Develop documentation and training materials for the program. Implement evaluation strategy for the program and compile data. Coordinate logistics for HWSC graduation ceremony at end of year.
Facilitate student-led Alternative Spring Break programs:
Advise student groups on issues including fundraising and finances, transportation, lodging, liability and safety, group dynamics, reflection and assessment. Coordinate fundraising efforts among the various groups planning ASB trips. Manage publicity about ASB opportunities, including website and press coverage through University Communications.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and one to two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in or a strong familiarity with higher education, the University of Rochester, and greater Rochester community is highly desirable. Excellent organizational, planning, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint, and familiarity with design, print, and web applications for marketing purposes. The ability to work autonomously within a team of skilled professionals.
